The Nobody Wants This actress visited The Drew Barrymore Show on Monday.

Drew Barrymore and Kristen Bell are embracing their natural beauty.
The actresses, who costarred in the 2012 film Big Miracle, removed their glam makeup and hair extensions for a candid conversation about beauty and social media on Monday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.
“You were the inspiration for me suggesting this because there’s no other show you could do this on,” Bell informed Barrymore, as they prepared to get unready together. “I can’t be like, ‘I’m gonna go on another talk show and take out my hair extensions.’ They’re gonna be like, ‘Could you… Maybe that’s not how we’re gonna do this talk show.’”

To prove her point, Bell began unclipping her hair extensions and placing them on the couch behind her, with Barrymore quickly following suit.
“Drew, you are just inspiring to me because you are so full of whimsy, and you are so full of loving life, and you are also not afraid… to show all the sides of you,” Bell explained. “And I thought, you know what? I feel like I came to this conclusion a couple years ago when my girls started wanting to experiment with makeup and appearances and I thought, ‘I need to frame this well.’”
The Frozen actress continued, “So I said, you know what, makeup and dressing and fashion, it’s not about concealment, it’s about creativity. And for some reason when I taught that to them, I also finally heard it for the first time myself.”
Bell shares two daughters, Lincoln and Delta, with husband Dax Shepard. In general, Bell shared that she doesn’t wear much makeup in her everyday life, and isn’t afraid of going barefaced online.
“I’m certainly not gonna stop and do a full beat in order to take an Instagram photo or put something out on social media,” she said. “For me, it’s just like… I wasn’t born with makeup on. I’ll survive if I post something on social media without makeup on, and I want other girls, anybody, to feel that it’s not mandatory.”

As she and Barrymore wiped away their makeup, Bell noted that her husband is equally supportive of their children’s decisions when it comes to fashion and beauty.
“He’s actually much better at it than I am, but I mean, in truth, they’re 11 and 13, so we haven’t dealt with anything like insane,” she said. “They haven’t wanted to leave the house not wearing pants or something, but I think just getting them comfortable with internal validation as opposed to external validation is one of the key building blocks because, honestly, I don’t know, I don’t know what my girls are gonna be.”

Bell added that Shepard doesn’t plan on being an overprotective father when it comes to their daughters dating in the future, either. When Barrymore confessed that she worries over her own two daughters dating, Bell replied, “Let me backdoor you to an idea: Do you think that some of who you’ve become was directly related to or because of the mistakes you made?”
That’s an experience that neither she nor Shepard want their daughters to lose.
“Friction and mistakes provide character and learning experiences and I don’t think I have the right to take those away from my daughters,” Bell continued. “I can guide them in the best way possible and give them the most up to date information and make sure that they feel good about themselves, but ultimately he had said to me, ‘Remember your first kiss, like the first time you had butterflies about someone? And what did that feel like inside your stomach?’ So why would we wanna remove that from our kids’ lives?’”
This isn’t the first time that Barrymore has gone barefaced on her talk show. The host frequently removes her makeup for beauty segments and interviews, including a chat with Stranger Things alum Millie Bobby Brown in 2024.
The Drew Barrymore Show airs weekdays on CBS.
